Jordan Tabakman joined the Amherst coaching staff in 2016, and serves as the team's pitching coach. A 2015 graduate from the University of Connecticut, Tabakman was a four-year letter winner and a member of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship team. He graduated with a B.A. in Communications and Psychology.
During Tabakman’s tenure at UConn, the right-handed pitcher and 2015 team captain etched his name in the record books with 16 wins (T-11th), 269.1 innings pitched (T-3rd) and 41 starts (5th). He played a crucial role in the team’s championship run, in which he started and earned the win in the semifinal game against Rutgers, 2-1. Advancing to the NCAA tournament, Tabakman threw a complete game no decision against Oklahoma in the Blacksburg Regional. He was named the recipient of UConn’s “Mary Dropo Unsung Hero Award.”
Following his career at UConn, Tabakman quickly turned the page from player to coach and spent this past summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League, serving as the pitching coach for the Bourne Braves. Tabakman had an immediate impact with his staff, as they finished third in the league with a 2.77 ERA, and first with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.03:1. The Braves advanced to the West Division Championship before falling to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.
A native of Pompton Plains, N.J., Tabakman led his Pequannock High School baseball team to a 2009 state championship while pitching 22 scoreless innings during the playoffs. The following year, the two-sport athlete became the all-time scoring leader in basketball with 1,495 career points while leading the team to the Group 2 state championship game. Tabakman also received multi-year First Team, All Conference, All-County and All-State selections in both sports.
