NEW HAVEN, CT. — Leo Wilensky broke a scoreless early game in the second half, and Wilder Judelson added a goal as the Amherst College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 road victory over Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday evening.
Bouncing back from a physical season-opening loss to nationally ranked Connecticut College, Amherst controlled play throughout its first road contest of the campaign. The Mammoths kept Albertus Magnus under pressure from the opening whistle, ultimately holding decisive advantages in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks before pulling away in the second half.
With the victory, Amherst moves to 1-1-0 on the season, while Albertus Magnus falls to 1-3-0. The Mammoths return to action on Saturday, September 12th, 2:30 PM hosting NESCAC rival Bowdoin College.

The sides entered halftime locked in a scoreless draw, despite Amherst creating the bulk of the attacking opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.

Amherst finally broke through in the 54th minute. Wilensky found the back of the net at the 53:17 mark for his first goal of the season, giving the Mammoths a 1-0 advantage. The opportunity started from a corner kick, with the goalie punching the ball away, but finding Riley Priddy right outside the box. Priddy's shot was blocked by defense, ricocheting to Wilensky's right foot. Without hesitation, Wilensky shot at the goal on his first touch, scoring, and putting Mammoths in the lead.

The Mammoths continued to control possession and limit Albertus Magnus opportunities, holding the Falcons to only five total shots and two shots on target for the match.

Amherst doubled its advantage in the 79th minute. Harrison Hackett set up Judelson, who finished at the 78:47 mark for his first goal of the campaign to seal the 2-0 victory. Judelson's goal was a header, which was assisted by a long throw-in by Hackett from the right. Judelson guided the ball to the bottom left of the frame.
