BRISTOL, R.I. – The Amherst College Women's Volleyball team commenced its 2026 season at the Roger Williams Invitational, losing its opener to Plymouth State (3-0) and subsequently defeating Roger Williams (3-0) at the Paolino Recreation Center. 

The Mammoths (1-1) lost to Plymouth State in three hard-fought rounds (16-25, 22-25, and 22-25), and earned their first victory against Rgoer Williams in three more contentious rounds (25-21, 25-22, and 25-14).

The team's next match-up will be against Springfield College on Tuesday, September 8th at Blake Arena. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS 

vs. Plymouth State

*The Mammoths gained an early 7-3 advantage in their first set against Plymouth, led by kills from Sofia Camilo and Reagan Lentz. However, Plymouth responded with a dominant run of its own, gaining a 13-8 lead over the Mammoths and eventually sealing the first set with a 25-16 victory. 

*The second set was a contentious back-and-forth battle, with Amherst gaining a late 20-19 advantage over Plymouth, supported by an Ace from Katelyn Xue and back-to-back kills from Tiana Richardson. Despite this late surge from the Mammoths, Plymouth still came out on top, with a final score of 25-22. 

*In the third set, the Mammoths gained a late 17-13 lead over Plymouth with the help of a Camilo kill, a Gabrielle Hines' ace, and a Plymouth attack error. However, Plymouth surged back, leading to a 22-22 tie and an ultimate 25-22 Plymouth victory. 

vs. Roger Williams 

*Amherst bounced back in their second match of the day. Led by kills from Tiana Richardson and Gabrielle Hines, the Mammoths gained a 16-8 advantage over Roger Williams in the first set. Although Roger Williams made a late run, Amherst eventually prevailed with a final score of 25-21. 

*The second set was contentious between Amherst and Roger Williams. The back-and-forth match came down to the final three points. With the score tied 22-22, an Abby Nichols' block and kills from Hines and Camilo sealed the deal, leading to a 25-22 Mammoths' victory. 

*In the final set of the day, the Mammoths were in the driver's seat for the whole match. Two consecutive early kills from Naima Cho-Khaliq and Reagan Lentz led to an 8-6 Amherst lead. The Mammoths finished out the day strong, scoring five unanswered points to win 25-16 and finishing the three-game sweep.

vs. Plymouth State

*In Amherst's opener, junior Sofia Camilo led the team with eight kills. Sophomores Gabrielle Hines and Naima Cho-Khaliq each contributed 5 kills. 

*Sophomore Judith Subirats-Bosch led the team with 14 assists, and Freshman Liliana Brandt added eight. Sophomore Stella Jacey led the Mammoths with seven digs.

*Junior Abby Nichols led the team with five block assists. 

vs. Roger Williams

*Sophomore Gabrielle Hines led the Mammoths in kills with a total of 11. Freshman Reagan Lentz and Senior Tiana Ricardson were also key contributors with 10 and 8, respectively. 

*Liliana Brandt led the team in assists with 18, and Judith Subirats-Bosch added 15. 

*Abby Nichols once again led the team in total net blocks, including one solo block and two block assists.
