MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Amherst College women's cross country finished third at the Little Three Championship on Friday at Long Lane Farm, unable to keep pace with a deep Williams squad and a strong Wesleyan team on the 4k course.

Williams claimed the team title with 22 points, running away from the field behind a dominant top pack, while Wesleyan took second with 43 points. Amherst rounded out the three-team meet with 69 points, finishing well back of both rivals as the gap between the top two schools and the Mammoths proved sizable from the front of the race on down.

The individual race went to Williams junior Kate Tuttle, who won in 14:49.7, with teammate Jordan Liss-Riordan taking second in 15:01.7. Wesleyan first-year Ava Bullock split the Williams duo's dominance briefly with a third-place finish in 15:02.6, before Williams runners Tamar Byl (fourth, 15:04.6) and Estella Laird (sixth, 15:13.4) helped anchor the Ephs' commanding showing.

Amherst's first finisher was first-year Sydney Remenar, who paced the Mammoths with a seventh-place finish in 15:13.7. Sophomore Katie Greenwald wasn't far behind, crossing in eighth at 15:14.3, giving Amherst two runners inside the top eight early in the race.

The rest of Amherst's scoring five came in well behind that front pair: first-year Eva Muzichenko (17th, 15:55.5), junior Taylor Gudebski (18th, 16:09.7), and first-year Grace Alexander (19th, 16:13.8) rounded out the Mammoths' counters, with a notable gap opening up between Amherst's top two and its remaining scorers. Junior Ava Thomas (20th, 16:20.6) and senior Emma Vatnsdal (21st, 17:11.8) added further depth for the Mammoths as the meet closed out.

Amherst will look to tighten its pack and close the gap on its Little Three rivals as the season builds toward conference and regional championship racing.
