AMHERST, MASS. – The Amherst College field hockey team defeated Connecticut College, 2-0, this Saturday on Hill Field.
With this win, the 2026 season is now under way, and the Mammoths will be back to action next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in a home game against Springfield College.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Three minutes into the first quarter, Emma Zhang fired a shot that was narrowly saved by Conn's goalie.
Devon Watson, likewise, fired a promising shot that was just wide of the goal with two minutes remaining in the quarter.
* The game stood scoreless as the Mammoths entered the second quarter. The Mammoths maintained a tight defense, despite two shots fired four and twelve minutes into the quarter that were subsequently blocked by goalie Grace Puchalski.
* With a little over five minutes remaining in quarter two, Bella Kim made a swift pass to Caroline Busler, who dodged Conn's defense and struck the ball into the goal, scoring Amherst's first goal of the 2026 season.
* Amherst looked for a security goal in quarter three, but despite six combined shots fired by Busler, Zhang, and Emily Huehn, the Mammoths did not find a gap. Conn was prevented from getting within striking distance of the goal during the third quarter.
* With Puchalski saving three shots over the course of quarter four, helping the Mammoths maintained their advantage. In the final 40 seconds of the game, Busler gained possession of the ball and subsequently assisted
Chloe Agopian to put another point on the board for the Mammoths.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths drew 10 penalty corners.
* Puchalski racked up 5 saves, preventing the opponent from scoring a single goal.
