CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Amherst College women's field hockey team defeated Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 4-0, this Wednesday in an away game. With this victory, the Mammoths now hold a 4-2 record on the season and will be back to action this Saturday at 11:30 in an away game against Williams College.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths got off to a strong start with
Genevieve Caruso firing a rocket eleven minutes into the game that soared past MIT's goalie and into the goal.
* Nine and a half minutes into quarter two,
Devon Watson drew a penalty corner, successfully putting the ball into play and into possession of Caruso. Caruso then dodged MIT's defenders to throw a security goal on the board.
Ella Kang followed suit, less than two minutes later, with another goal after MIT made a substitution.
* The Mammoths continued to play aggressive offense in quarter three, with
Cate LaFreniere,
Emily Huehn, and
Bella Kim firing shots that just missed scoring.
* Continuing to play an incredible game, Caruso kicked off quarter four with another goal, pushing the Mammoths to a 4-0 lead. MIT fired their two and only shots in the final quarter, one of which was saved by Goalie
Grace Puchalski, the other of which was wide. In the latter half of quarter four,
Olivia Tennant fired two promising shots, one of which was saved by MIT's goalie, the other of which was slightly wide.
