Dramatic Walk-Off Win Gains Mammoths Split With Ramapo

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Justin Orridge singled home Leo Foust with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Amherst College baseball team a stunning 5-4 win over Ramapo College in the nightcap of a Sunday doubleheader played at Trinity College's Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.

The Roadrunners won the opener of the twinbill 4-3. Amherst is now 2-1 while Ramapo suffered its first loss of the season and is 5-1.

The Mammoths are schedule to play Clark Thursday in Worcester at 4 p.m.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

* Down 4-3 with two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 9th inning, Aiden Dubetsky kept things alive when he singled through the right side and took second on a wild pitch. Foust then followed with a short chopper to third that he beat out for an infield single that put runners on the corners. Tyler McCord ripped a single into left that scored Dubetsky to tie the game. Orridge then hit a bouncing grounder up the middle, perfectly placed between the shortstop and second baseman. A dive behind the bag stopped the ball, but Foust, running on contact, easily beat the throw home to give Amhersta thrilling victory.

* Amherst had been no-hit for the first 3 1/3 innings until McCord roped a double that one-hopped the fence in left field. Through 5 2/3 innings, the game was a pitcher's duel between Saahi Jetti of Amherst and James Kahn of Ramapo. The Roadrunners scored in the first off Jetti on a hit batsman and a double. They made it 2-0 when Jetti hit another batter with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the sixth.

* Down 2-0, the Mammoths got up off the mat in the bottom of the frame. Dubetsky ripped a one-out double down the right-field line. Foust followed by lining a single into left that scored Dubetsky. McCord singled and stole second and Oriddge walked to load the bases before Charlie LaFreniere lofted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Foust with the tying run.

* Jetti was gone after six but had another strong outing, allowing two runs, both earned, while walking two and fanning three. Kahn was gone after 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs as well.

* Both teams scored a run in the 7th, with the Mammoths' getting singles from Ben Smith, Dubetsky and Foust to load the bases. McCord then drew a bases-loaded walk that tied the game.

* Ramapo scored a single run in the eighth to set up the bottom of the ninth dramatics.

* McCord was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI while Dubetsky and Foust were both 3 for 5.

* Adrian Caron pitched a scoreless top of the ninth and earned the win.
