BRUNSWICK, ME. – The Mammoths fell to Bowdoin 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 26-24) on Friday night, moving to 8-7 overall and 1-5 against NESCAC opponents.
Amherst will have the ability to bounce back against Colby College in Waterville, ME, tomorrow afternoon.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
*Amherst started off the first set well, behind kills from
Gabrielle Hines, moving to a 4-2 lead. The Mammoths continued their lead to 8-6 behind a
Tiana Richardson block and an
Addison Lau service ace, before Bowdoin responded with an 11-0 run, taking a 17-8 lead. Amherst struggled offensively in the second half of the match, and Bowdoin won 25-13.
*In the second set, Bowdoin gained an early 11-8 advantage, but Amherst responded with a 4-0 run, behind kills from
Sofia Camilo and
Gabrielle Hines. With a 12-11 advantage, Amherst excelled offensively, pushing their lead to a late 19-17 advantage with the help of a kill from
Addison Lau and a service ace from Hines. However, Bowdoin rallied to take a 24-21 lead and closed out the set with a 25-22 victory.
*Amherst had the best start out of all sets in the third. The Mammoths built an early lead of 10-4 behind kills from
Tiana Richardson,
Gabrielle Hines, and
Naima Cho-Khaliq, along with a service ace from
Addison Lau. Like in the previous matches, Bowdoin bounced back, tying the set at 16. However, Amherst responded again behind two kills from Cho-Khaliq and Nichols to regain a 20-18 advantage.
* Unfortunately, when the match seemed like it was over at 24-21, Bowdoin scored five consecutive points to steal away the set from the Mammoths.
