AMHERST, MASS. – The Amherst College field hockey shutout Western New England University, 3-0, today on Hill Field. The Mammoths, having completed their ninth game, now hold a 6-3 record on the season.
Up next for the Mammoths is an away game against Hamilton College this Saturday at 11 a.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths were aggressive from the onset, with
Cate LaFreniere,
Genevieve Caruso, and
Caroline Busler firing shots in the first quarter that were saved by WNE's goalie.
* LaFreniere and
Emily Huehn kicked off quarter two in a similar fashion, firing two shots in the first three minutes. With four minutes on the clock, the Mammoths' efforts paid off when WNE fouled Amherst, and the ball was put back into play and in possession of
Caroline Busler. Busler swiftly passed to Caruso, assisting her to the first goal of the game; Caruso's eighth this season.
* With ten minutes on the clock in quarter two, LeFreniere followed suit, firing a rocket that soared past WNE's goalie, securing a security goal for the Mammoths.
* The Mammoths continued with this momentum after halftime. Less than two minutes into the third quarter, the Mammoths added another goal to the board, with LaFreniere assisting Caruso in scoring.
* WNE attempted their first goal of the game in quarter three, firing a shot that was subsequently blocked by goalie
Grace Puchalski five minutes in.
* Quarter four opened with WNE firing their second and final shot, which goalie
Kate Grady swiftly blocked.
