MAMMOTHS FALL TO #1 TUFTS, 2-1, AT HOME

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College field hockey team fell to Tufts University, 2-1, today on Hill Field. The Mammoths, having completed their eighth game of the season, now hold a 5-3 record. 

Up next for the Mammoths is a home game against Western New England University Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: 

* Amherst kicked off the game in an aggressive fashion, with Genevieve Caruso firing a promising shot 53 seconds in that was saved by Tuft's goalie. The first quarter ended scoreless for both teams. 

* Five minutes into quarter two, goalie Grace Puchalski had an impressive save, deflecting a rocket fired by Tuft's Ellie Wilkins. Despite the Mammoths' defensive efforts, Tufts put the first goal on the board 10 minutes into the quarter. Puchalski blocked two more would-be goals for Tufts in the minutes that followed. 

* Tufts put another goal on the board in quarter three, and the Mammoths entered the final quarter down two scores.. However, the Mammoths did not let up, with Emily Huehn firing a promising shot three minutes into quarter four that was blocked by Tufts. 

* The tide began to turn around for the Mammoths when Emma Zhang gained possession of the ball with four minutes on the clock, swiftly passing to Cate LaFreniere. LaFreniere then fired a shot that soared past Tuft's goalie, scoring the Mammoth's first goal of the game and LaFreniere's first of her college career. 

* Tufts responded with a shot four minutes later, which Puchalski successfully blocked. LaFreniere attempted a would-be-tying goal in the final 45 seconds of the game, but it was blocked by Tuft's goalie.

* Amherst racked up 4 saves compared to Tuft's 2.

* Amherst fired 4 shots. Tufts had 8.
