AMHERST, MA —
After earning a win over Trinity the night before, the Amherst College women's basketball team returned to LeFrak Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to face Wesleyan University for the second time this season. Having already defeated the Cardinals earlier in the year, the Mammoths looked to secure another victory – and did just that. Amherst took control early, using strong ball movement and efficient shooting to build a lead they would never relinquish, cruising to a 68–46 win and closing the weekend with two NESCAC victories.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Amherst set the tone from the opening possession, scoring the game's first points on a three-pointer from Laura Mendell. The game remained close throughout the first quarter, but the Mammoths finished the period holding an 18–15 advantage.
-
In the second quarter, Amherst began to pull away. Four different Mammoths (Reagan Pahl, Chase Anderson, Annie McCarthy, and Anna Tranum) each knocked down a three-pointer to help extend the lead. Additional key jumpers kept the offense rolling, and although Amherst built a lead as large as 17, Wesleyan responded with several runs to cut the deficit to nine heading into halftime (38–29).
-
The Mammoths took full control in the third quarter, turning defensive pressure into offensive production. Amherst capitalized on steals and fast-break opportunities, outscoring the Cardinals and entering the fourth quarter with a commanding 19-point lead.

Amherst maintained their intensity through the final quarter, continuing to dominate on both ends of the floor and closing out the game with a decisive 68–46 victory.
