AMHERST, Mass. -- Amherst College sophomore
Hannah Stephenson (Farmington, Conn.) has been named the USTFCCCA's M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.
From the USTFCCCA's release:
The importance of the Little Three Championship is not lost on athletes from Amherst, Wesleyan (Conn.) and Williams. This year especially with all three teams ranked in the preseason top-30 of the NCAA DIII Cross Country National Coaches' Poll – and the Mammoths and Ephs both ranked in the top-ten.
Hannah Stephenson provided eighth-ranked Amherst with the ultimate low stick, winning the 4k race in 14:49.0, 19 seconds ahead of teammate Ani Balin. Stephenson didn't compete at the meet last year, but got a taste of the rivalry at the NESCAC Championships in November.
This is the third time in program history that a female athlete from Amherst has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season. Stephenson joins 2022 honoree Mary Kate McGranahan and 2017 honoree Nicky Roberts in that regard.
