#23 Mammoths settle for 1-1 tie in showdown with Colby

AMHERST, Mass. – In a hard-fought NESCAC showdown, the No. 23-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Colby College on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Hitchcock Field.

The result extends the Mammoths' unbeaten streak to five matches, moving them to 6-1-2 on the season, while the Mules shift to 4-2-2.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • After a scoreless first half marked by strong defense and goalkeeping on both sides, Amherst broke through in the 56th minute with an impressive team goal. Sophomore Caroline Coletti beat her defender and sent a dangerous cross into the box that was initially blocked by the Colby defense. Senior Kate Quigley recovered the rebound and lofted the ball back toward Senior Brooke Ingemi, who flicked it toward the six-yard line. Senior Sophia Haynes met it in stride, volleying the ball into the top corner for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 Mammoths lead.
  • Colby answered back just over 10 minutes later. In the 67th minute, the Mules earned a free kick from distance, and Jane Maguire delivered a perfectly struck ball that bent into the top-left corner. Amherst goalkeeper Lulu Fickes got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out, leveling the match at 1-1.
  • Both sides traded chances down the stretch, with Fickes and Colby keeper Sadie Gardner making key saves to preserve the deadlock. Ingemi nearly restored the Amherst lead in the 89th minute, rising for a header off a corner that narrowly missed the target.
