First Years Lead Mammoths to George Phinney Classic Title

MIDDLEBURY, VT -- First years Emma Lindemoen and Grace Zhan first first and second, respectively, at the top of te leaderboard, leading the Amherst College women's golf team to the team title of the George Phinney Classic played at Middlebury Colleges's Ralph Myhre Golf Course. 

The Mammoths won their first event of the 2025-26 season, besting conference rival Williams College by seven strokes. Lindemoen won her first collegiate tournament with a 9-over 151 for te two-day event, firing a 3-over 74 in Sunday's final round to best Zahn by two strokes. Zhan bested Williams' Petra Yee for second place, shooting a 6-over 77 on Sunday after getting into the clubhouse with a 5-over 76 after Saturday's first round. 

Amherst went into's Sunday's final round with a seven-stroke lead over Williams after shooting a collective 314 during Saturday's first round. Both the Mammoths and Ephs shot matching 308s on Sunday to allow Amherst to win the title. 

Amherst sophomore Jia An matched Zahn with a 6-over 77 Sunday and finished 13th overall in the standings. First year Renna Chang finished 10-over Sunday and settled for a 16h-place finish in the individual standings. Joelle Kim was 9-over Sunday and placed 36th. Annie Dai (28th) and Karolyn Zeng (54th) played as independents.

One of the highlights of the tourney was Lindemoen opening Sunday's play with an eagle on the 481-yard, Par 5 first hole. She added a birdie on hole 3. She pared the other seven holes on the front nine to start 3-under en route to the individual title.
