Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#20 Mammoths draw rival Williams, 0-0

AMHERST, MA — The Amherst College men's soccer team faced rival Williams College on Saturday afternoon at Hitchcock Field, and after 90 minutes of intense, physical play, the contest ended in a 0–0 draw.

The Mammoths dictated much of the match, generating the majority of scoring opportunities and defending well, but neither Amherst nor Williams could find the back of the net.

"We're disappointed to not come away with a win today. We felt like we carried the game for all ninety minutes, but that's soccer sometimes," Amherst head coach Justin Serpone said. "What I liked most was how we were able to persevere through some hard, physical play and still create chances in the final third. The goals will come."

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Amherst went on the attack from the opening whistle, controlling possession and creating early opportunities.
  • The Mammoths came close in the 26th minute when Obed Opoku unleashed a powerful strike from outside the 18-yard box that rattled off the post.
  • Michael Cherico led the Amherst offense with eight shots, including several dangerous headers that continually tested the Williams defense.
  • Mohammed Nuhu and Obed Opoku each had three shots and remained a constant attacking threat throughout the match. Their movement and playmaking kept the Williams defense on their toes and helped the Mammoths create numerous scoring opportunities.
  • Amherst continued to create chances late in the game, earning a corner in the 84th minute, but was unable to capitalize.
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Amherst relentlessly attacked all game, outshooting Williams 19–3 and consistently testing the Ephs' defense.
