Four top regional performances highlight 15 Mammoths earning USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Amherst College women's track and field team produced four top regional performances during the outdoor season as 15 Mammoths earned Mideast Outdoor All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

USTFCCCA awards All-Region honors to the top five individuals in each event from each region, as well as each member of the region's top three relay teams over the course of the outdoor season prior to the NCAA Championships. The Mideast Region is one of 10 regions across the country and consists of 26 institutions in western Massachusetts, eastern New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Top regional performances were produced by sophomore Héloïse Hughes (Geneva, Switzerland) in the 200m, first-year Flora Biro (Louisville, Ky.) in the 10000m, junior Myeh Medina (New York, N.Y.) in the 400m hurdles, and sophomore Emma Ramsingh (Pompano Beach, Fla.) in the discus. 

All-Region honors were also earned by Hughes in the 100m, senior Casie Eifrig (Lemont, Pa.) in the 400m, junior Piper Lentz (Sparks, Md.) in the 800m, sophomore Zoë Marcus (Fairport, N.Y.) in the 800m, first-year Hannah Stephenson (Farmington, Conn.) in the 5000m, senior Eliza Cardwell (Melbourne, Australia) in the 100m hurdles, senior Payton Sorensen (Orlando, Fla.) in the pole vault, first-year Madison Vant (North Reading, Mass.) in the javelin, the Amherst 4x100m relay team of sophomores Rachel Hubley (Malvern, Pa.) and Camilla Lash (Darien, Conn.), first-year Ellie Jolly (Newton, Mass.), and Hughes, and the Mammoth 4x400m relay team of sophomore Christa Prasertsintanah (Bangkok, Thailand), Lentz, Medina, and Eifrig.  

Leading the Mammoths in the short sprints this season, Hughes registered the top regional time in the 200m at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza at Williams with a personal record of 24.51. Hughes ranked fourth in the Mideast in the 100m, clocking in a time of 11.95 at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza. Hughes was also a member of Amherst's 4x100m relay team that placed second in the region this season, wrapping up her sophomore season with nine career All-Region awards. 

Concluding her rookie season as one of the top distance runners in the country, Biro recorded the fastest 10000m time in the Mideast running 35:29.61 at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza to earn her first All-Region honor. 

Posting the top regional performance in the 400m hurdles, Medina earned her eighth career All-Region award as the junior clocked in a time of 1:01.90 at the NESCAC Championship. 

Wrapping up her sophomore season as the top discus thrower in the Mideast, Ramsingh's throw of 45.37m at the MIT Final Qualifier marks the second All-Region performance of her career. 

Hubley, Lash, and Jolly joined Hughes on the 4x100m relay team that finished the season with the second fastest time in the Mideast. Posting a time of 46.62 at the MIT Final Qualifier, the quartet set a new program record for Amherst. Hubley, Lash, and Jolly all earn their first All-Region accolade. 

Eifrig graduates with 11 All-Region honors to her name as the senior delivered the third fastest regional time in the 400m, setting a school record of 56.77 at the Sean Collier Invitational. Eifrig was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that ranked second in the region. 

Joining Eifrig in the 4x400m relay, Prasertsintanah, Lentz, and Medina ran a time of 3:47.91 at the MIT Final Qualifier which established a new program record and ranks second in the region this season. This marks a second career All-Region award for Prasertsintanah.   

A top performer in the mid-distance events for Amherst, Lentz registered a program record in the 800m with a time of 2:08.21 at the MIT Final Qualifier, placing second in the Mideast season standings. Lentz wraps up her junior season with five career All-Region honors. 

Joining Lentz as a top-five regional finisher in the 800m, Marcus posted the fifth-fastest regional time at the MIT Final Qualifier, running 2:11.96. Marcus tallies six career All-Region awards. 

One of the Mammoths' fastest 5000m performers all time, Stephenson delivered a time of 16:34.49 at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza to rank fourth in the Mideast, earning her first All-Region accolade.

Graduating with 18 All-Region honors during her collegiate career and departing as Amherst's top short-distance hurdler in program history, Cardwell ran a time of 14.48 in the 100m hurdles at the MIT Final Qualifier to finish fourth in the region this season. 

Finishing her final season with a program record, Sorensen's mark of 3.72m from the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza ties for fifth in the Mideast, earning her first regional honor. 

Wrapping up her rookie season with the fourth best javelin performance in the Mideast, Vant threw a distance of 36.54m at the Sean Collier Invitational to earn the first All-Region award of her career. 

The Mammoths finished the outdoor season ranked third in the Mideast Region in the USTFCCCA rankings after a runner-up finish at the NESCAC Championships. Medina went on to earn All-America First Team honors in the 400m hurdles, placing sixth in the nation while Ramsingh, Lentz, and Biro recorded All-America Second Team performances.
