BRUNSWICK, Me. -- Down 10-0 at the half Sunday, the Amherst College men's lacrosse team faced an uphill climb and despite its best efforts, ultimately fell to conference-rival Bowdoin, 16-5, in an NCAA Div. III Tournament third rond game played on the Polar Bears' Whittier Field.
Amherst season concludes with an 11-5 record. Bowdoin advances to the NCAA quarterfinals, where it will face Christopher Newport at Tufts University Saturday, May 17th.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Bowdoin kept the Mammoths off the scoreboard for the first 35 minutes Sunday, building a 12-0 lead two minutes into the third quarter.
* It was
Max Youssefnia who put the Mammoths on the board with 9:59 remaining in the third.
Bob Gross and
Willie Doyle added third-period goals but the Mammoths trailed 14-3 after the end of the frame.
* It was 16-3 when Gross and
Brendan Reilly scored in the final 2:30 of the game to account for the final score.
