WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – In the first 54-hole NESCAC Championship event in conference history, the Amherst Mammoths came from behind on Sunday in the final round of the 2025 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship to capture their first conference title since 1997 and ninth overall.

After a weekend of challenging weather conditions, including persistent rain and strong winds, the Mammoths finished with an 896 (+44) score, three strokes ahead of the runner-up Trinity College.

Amherst entered the final day in third place and five strokes behind two-day leader Hamilton. The Continentals dropped seven strokes to fall to third by the end of the final round, which allowed Amherst and Trinity to duke it out for the title.

"I could not be more proud of this team," Amherst head coach Elizabeth Geene said. "Over the past three days, they have endured exceptionally challenging weather conditions, including persistent rain and strong winds. Taconic presented one of the toughest tests I have ever witnessed, yet our players demonstrated remarkable resilience and focus. Securing this championship was a true team effort, and a testament to their hard work and determination. We are not finished yet and look forward to competing at nationals."

Both teams were tied through 16 holes. On the 17th, both teams posted two pars and three bogeys and on the final hole, five Mammoths posted par on the par-5 18th to secure the NESCAC title by three strokes over the Bantams.

On the tournament's final day, junior Paari Kaviyarasu finished with individual medalist honors, holding the first-place title, tallying a total of 4-over par. He closed the tournament with a 3-over 74 on Sunday, including five birdies, to finish at 4-over par overall.

Running up for the Mammoths is first-year Andre Zhang, tying for second place individually with 9-over par overall.

Sunday's round saw first-year Jan Ebbinge notch a 4-over 75, earning him seventh place individually. Following Ebbinge's performance is Mark Vitels, carding a 7-over 78. Completing the Mammoth's scoring, Zhang earned a 79 (+8) on day three.

After overcoming the harsh weather conditions and competitive field across the weekend, the Mammoths set their sights on the NCAA Division III Championships, where they will compete against the nation's top programs with momentum.
