GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore
Maeve Kelley earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly to highlight action for the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team on the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Friday.
Kelley touched in a personal-best time of 2:00.90 to finish fourth in the championship final and earn her second career First Team All-America honor, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. Kelley previously finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle last year.
The Mammoths also earned Second Team All-America honors in the 800-yard freestyle relay as sophomores
Lucy Smith and
Paige Arnold teamed with senior
Megan Lee and Kelley to finish 10th in the nation with a time of 7:27.97.
The Mammoths placed 17th in the 200-yard medley relay as seniors
Cora Spelke,
Ali Lacroix and
Katherine Hoffman and first-year
Sydney Thompson touched in 1:44.51 in the morning preliminaries.
Lacroix also finished 17th in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:03.27 in the morning preliminaries.
Entering the final day of competition, the Mammoths have tallied 50 points to rank 14th in the team standings. NYU leads the meet with 368 points, 20 points ahead of second-place MIT.
The national championship meet concludes on Saturday (March 22) with the final day of preliminaries at 10 a.m. and the finals session at 6 p.m. The final day of action is slated to feature Lacroix in the 200-yard breaststroke, Arnold in the 100-yard freestyle and senior
