GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team earned All-America honors in the 400-yard medley relay to highlight action for the Mammoths on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Seniors
Cora Spelke and
Ali Lacroix and sophomores
Paige Arnold and
Lucy Smith teamed up to clock in at a season-best 3:46.36 in the consolation final of the 400 medley relay to finish 14th and earn Second Team All-America honors, awarded to the 9th through 16th place finishers in each event. It was the fourth career All-America honor for Lacroix and Smith, third for Arnold and second for Spelke.
The All-America finish earned the Mammoths six points in the team standings, putting Amherst in 18th place after the first day of competition.
Sophomore
Maeve Kelley finished 18th in the nation in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in 4:58.14 in the preliminaries.
Arnold also placed 32nd in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of 2:06.45 in the preliminaries.
Smith finished 37th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.67 seconds.
The national championship meet runs through Saturday (March 22) with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. each day with the finals session kicking off at 6 p.m. each evening. Thursday's action will see senior
Megan Lee racing in the 400-yard individual medley, Arnold competing in the 100-yard butterfly, Kelley swimming the 200-yard freestyle and the Mammoths taking on the 200-yard freestyle relay, while senior
Sydney Bluestein will compete in one-meter diving, the event in which she won the national championship in 2023.
