WORCESTER, Mass. -- Clark University scored two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to overcome a four-run deficit and defeat the Amherst College baseball team, 6-5, Thursday on Granger Field.
Amherst fell to 2-3 on the season while the Cougars improved to 7-2. Next up for the Mammoths is a spring trip to Florida. They open vs. Endicott Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida.Â
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With one out,
Jack Sampedro beat out an infield single. With two outs he took second on an errant pick-off throw at first base.
Ryan McIntyre's grounder resulted in a throwing error that allowed Sampedro to score from second.Â
* The Mammoths added three runs in the top of the third inning.
Jack Boyle got things started with a single, stole second and third base and scored on a Sampedro RBI-groundout.
Charlie LaFreniere then drew a walk and McIntyre followed with a double down the right-field line that scored his teammate as he took third on the throw.
Tyler McCord's grounder than resulted in an error that allowed McIntyre to score for a 4-0 lead.Â
* After Clark's rally put the Mammoths behind 6-4, they put a brief rally together in the seventh. Boyle led off and was hit by a pitch. He then stole second and scored on Sampedro's RBI-single. But Sampedro was forced out and two strikeouts followed to end the threat.
* In the Amherst 9th,
Aiden Dubetsky led off with a single and took second on a sacrifice bunt. The game ended when Sampedro struck out swiging and Dubetsky was caught stealing third on the pitch.Â

* Amherst had 7 hits. Sampedro was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Boyle was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.Â
