WATERVILLE, ME — Goals from Breanna Studley, Kylie Makuh, and Megan Martodam skated the Colby College Mules to a 3-1 victory over the Amherst College women's hockey team at Jack Kelley Rink this evening.
The Mammoth's record falls to 14-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 for in-conference play.
Tomorrow, the Mammoths will hit the ice for a NESCAC rematch against the Mules at 3 p.m. at Jack Kelley Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After a give-and-go up the boards between Colby's Beth Sinson and Anya Jiang, Sinson passed the puck again by Amherst's blue line, dishing it off to Jiang in the middle. Jiang passed to Courtney Schumacher at an angle behind her, and Schumacher passed to Studley for the goal, with 3:11 remaining in the first period for the first goal.
- Amherst's Claire O'Connor fired a rebound shot that popped into the air, where Maeve Reynolds, positioned by the right post, tapped it down and slipped it past Colby goaltender Mandy Busky. After a crease scramble, Bea Flynn got the finishing touch for the goal with 10:27 left in the second period.
- Colby gained control after a faceoff in the Mules' zone, with Studley sending the puck up the boards to Sydney McCormack. McCormack skated into the right faceoff circle and fired a shot, saved by Mammoth goalie Natalie Stott. Makuh lifted the puck off the rebound over Stott's pads for the goal at 13:57 in the second period.
- In Colby's zone, Lizzy Hamel scrambled for the puck and broke away up the ice after gaining possession, carrying it to the right corner. She cut back and passed to Martodam in the right faceoff circle, where Martodam lifted it into the top right corner of the net 1:06 into the final period.
