SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior
Sydney Bluestein of the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team won the regional championship in one-meter diving and qualified for the national championship meet on Friday at the NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional at Springfield College.
Bluestein, the 2023 national champion in the event, posted an 11-dive score of 469.70, edging runner-up Issara Schmidt of NYU by 5.9 points to repeat as regional champion and book a fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships.
Junior
Donna Zhang finished eighth in the field of 29 divers with a score of 410.25.
The regionals continue on Saturday (March 1) at Springfield's Linkletter Natatorium with the three-meter diving competition set to begin around 4:30 p.m. Eight divers from the region will earn a spot in the national championship meet. While Bluestein has already clinched a ticket to nationals, Zhang can guarantee a spot at nationals with a top-four finish on the 3m board and could still earn a berth with a lower result depending on results from other divers.
