LAS VEGAS, NV —
The Amherst College women's basketball team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete in the D3Hoops Classic. On Sunday afternoon, the Mammoths faced Gettysburg College at South Point Arena. Both teams came out strong in the opening quarter, with Amherst holding a narrow lead after the first 10 minutes of play. However, Gettysburg pulled away in the second and third quarters, and although the Mammoths fought hard in the fourth, they were unable to overcome the deficit. The loss marked Amherst's first of the season, bringing an end to their unbeaten streak.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

Both teams came out with high energy in the first quarter, with Amherst narrowly leading 18–17 at the end of the first quarter.

Gettysburg responded in the second quarter, going on a run to take control of the game and build a seven-point lead heading into halftime.

The Bullets carried that momentum into the third quarter, using key three-point shots, made free throws, and steals to extend their lead to 17 points by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Amherst worked to fight back with high-pressure defense and two key three-pointers from Chase Anderson and Annie McCarthy. Despite their efforts, the Mammoths were unable to close the gap before time ran out.

Annie McCarthy led the Mammoths with 14 points, followed by Laura Mendell with 11 points.

Brielle Renwick dominated the boards for the Mammoths with 7 rebounds, followed by Sylvia Liddle with 6.

As a team, the Mammoths shot 37.3% from the field, 37.5% from the 3-point line, and 52.9% from the free-throw line.

The Mammoths will look to bounce back tomorrow, Monday, December 29, when they face Salve Regina University at 2 p.m. in South Point Arena for their final game of the D3Hoops Classic tournament.
