AMHERST, Mass. — The Amherst College women's basketball team defended their home court on Tuesday afternoon, earning a 61–44 victory over the Oswego State Lakers in LeFrak Gymnasium. With neither team able to gain much separation in the first half, the Mammoths opened the second half with heightened intensity, surged ahead, and carried that lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure the win and keep their undefeated record intact.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Oswego opened the game with strong pace and early shot-making, but Amherst matched their energy and kept the margin close. The Lakers held a narrow 19–17 lead after the first quarter.
- The second quarter remained a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to pull away. In the final seconds before halftime, Avery Myerberg drove to the basket and scored, sending Amherst into the break trailing Oswego by just one point, 32–31.
- After the break, Amherst completely shifted the tone of the game. The Mammoths forced turnovers, pushed the pace, and strung together defensive stops, overwhelming Oswego in a dominant third quarter. They outscored the Lakers 22–4 to build a 17-point cushion going into the fourth.
- Amherst maintained control throughout the final quarter, closing out the night with steady defense and efficient possessions to seal the 61–44 win.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Annie McCarthy powered the offense with 18 points, followed by Anna Tranum with 12 points and Elizabeth Cain with 11 points.
- Brielle Renwick anchored the paint, grabbing 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
- Defensively, the Mammoths stood tall, recording 7 blocks compared to Oswego's 3.
