BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Amherst College women's basketball team traveled to Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on Wednesday to take on the Bridgewater State University Bears. After a tightly contested first quarter, the Mammoths quickly asserted control in the second quarter and dominated the rest of the game, securing a 74–47 victory in their second matchup of the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- The opening quarter featured steady back-and-forth play, with neither team creating separation.
- Tied 16–16 after the end of the first quarter, the Mammoths found their stride in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears and building a 37–23 lead heading into halftime.
- Amherst carried that momentum into the third quarter, extending the margin to 22 points (59–37) as a result of strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring.
- The Mammoths continued to control the pace in the fourth quarter and closed out the game with a commanding 27-point advantage.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Four Mammoths had double-digit scoring nights: Annie McCarthy led the way with 17 points, followed by Chase Anderson with 16, Anna Tranum with 15, and Laura Mendell with 10.
- Amherst shot 47.4% from beyond the arc compared to Bridgewater State's 21.4%.
- The Mammoths finished the game with a 49–38 advantage in rebounds.
