AMHERST, MA — Amherst College senior
Anna Tranum tied her career high with 20 points Sunday as the 16th-ranked Amherst College women's college basketball team opened its season with a 76–55 win over Arcadia University at LeFrak Gymnasium.
The Mammoths started strong, attacking right away and establishing early momentum. Although Arcadia found their rhythm at times, Amherst controlled both ends of the floor, allowing them to secure a decisive season-opening victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Mammoths came out fast in the first quarter, taking a 34–9 lead with the help of a successful shooting stretch. Amherst went 13–16 from the field and 4–6 from the three-point line in the opening quarter, building an early advantage that set the tone for the rest of the game.
- Arcadia gained some momentum in the second quarter, but the shift was brief. Amherst responded quickly after halftime, and the Mammoths reached their largest lead of the game (33 points) during the third quarter.
- The Mammoths maintained control throughout the fourth quarter to close out the game.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Tranum led the Mammoths with 20 points, followed by Laura Mendell with 17 and Chase Anderson with 13.
- Annie McCarthy led Amherst on the glass with 7 rebounds.
- Overall, the Mammoths shot 52.6% from the field, 38.5% from the 3-point line, and 68.8% from the free-throw line.
