CANTON, N.Y. — The Amherst women's cross country team delivered a gritty, disciplined performance at the NCAA Mideast Regional, placing fourth behind a tightly-packed scoring group and strong late-race moves from multiple Mammoths.

Sophomore Flora Biro led the way, surging from 21st at 955 meters to finish 15th overall in 22:25.8. Biro steadily climbed through the field, hitting the mile in 16th and holding her position through two miles and 3.93K before closing with an 8:01 final split.

First-year Katie Greenwald wasn't far behind, showing impressive composure in her regional debut. After sitting 30th early, Greenwald made one of the biggest moves of the day for Amherst, advancing to 17th by the finish in 22:32.2. Her consistent pacing, never losing ground after the first mile, made her the team's second scorer.

Junior Nikki Chopra continued Amherst's upward momentum, climbing from 46th at the 955m mark to finish 20th in 22:36.7. Chopra posted a fast middle-mile push, moving up nine places between the mile and two-mile splits and holding inside the top 20 all the way home.

Sophomore Ava Thomas provided a strong fourth score, running a steady progression from 45th early to 31st overall (22:55.0). Her even pacing helped stabilize Amherst's pack and keep the team in contention.

The Mammoths closed their scoring with another sophomore, Audrey Seeger, who placed 46th in 23:15.7. Seeger made one of the biggest midrace jumps on the team, advancing 16 spots between the 955m mark and the mile to help Amherst maintain a firm scoring presence.

Senior Allison Lounsbury (23:30.9) and sophomore Daniella Perez-Cartaya (23:48.6) rounded out the team's effort. Lounsbury, running in her final regional, made a significant charge from 92nd to 54th, showcasing veteran poise in the back half of the race.

Amherst's top four runners – Biro, Greenwald, Chopra and Thomas – earned All-Region honors by virtue of their top-35 finishes.

With three runners in the top 20 and a scoring five all inside the top 50, Amherst's fourth-place finish reflects both depth and resilience. A young core — four sophomores and a first-year among the top five — positions the Mammoths well for continued success as they look ahead to championship season. Both cross country teams look to receive at-large bids to the NCAA Championships, which will be announced on Sunday (Nov. 16).
