NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Amherst College men's cross country team delivered a 3rd-place statement performance at the 2025 NESCAC Championships, combining front-end firepower with reliable depth to secure a top team finish in challenging coastal conditions at Harkness Memorial State Park Saturday.

Leading the charge for the Mammoths was junior Harrison Dow, who stormed to a third-place finish in 24:25.8, averaging an impressive 4:54 per mile over the eight-kilometer course. Close behind, junior Stan Craig crossed in 24:32.3 for fifth, giving Amherst two runners in the top five and setting the tone for a tightly packed scoring five.

First-year standout Carter Bengtson finished 17th overall (24:54.4) with remarkable composure in his championship debut. Veterans Henry Dennen (19th, 24:59.3) and Parker Boyle (39th, 25:30.0) rounded out the scoring, keeping Amherst's 1-5 spread to just over one minute - a key indicator of both depth and consistency.

Behind them, junior Harrison Talcott (42nd, 25:39.6) and senior Thomas Stephens (56th, 25:53.4) provided critical support, ensuring Amherst's pack stayed competitive deep into the field.

Despite steady winds and soft terrain along the shoreline loop, the Mammoths executed a disciplined race plan, maintaining even pacing through the middle miles and closing hard down the final stretch. Their average time of 24:56 placed them among the best in the conference, only a step behind perennial powers like Williams and Tufts.
