#12 Mammoth women run to 16th-place finish at Conn. College Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Amherst College sophomore Flora Biro finished in 18th place individually Saturday, leading the Amherst College women's cross country team to a 16th-place finish at the prestigious Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Memorial State Park.

Over 260 runners from 38 teams took part in te 6K Blue championship race, including 16 nationally-ranked teams,which included the top five teams in the country as of the latest poll.  Audrey Maclean (Middlebury) repeated as champion and posted the second-fastest meet time ever; she is the first repeat women's champion since 2017 & 2018

Williams won the team title. M.I.T. was second and Johns Hopkins 3rd. 

Prior to this year, only five runners had ever broken 21:00 in the history of the women's 6K race; the top four did so today.

Biro completed her run in 21 minutes, 20.1 seconds to place 16th of the 261 runners who took part. Next in for the Mammoths was sophomore Ava Thomas, who completed the course in 21:39.4 and placed 85th. Sophomore Dani Perez-Cartaya was next in 22:58.6, she placed 117th. In 125th place was sophomore Audrey Seeger in 23:03. In 144th place was senior Piper Lentz in 23:20.1. Sophomore Addison McGoey finished in 151st place in 23:23.07. Rounding out the 7-women roster for the day was sophomore Maya Levine, who finished 173rdin 23:40.5. 

The Mammoths also had a full contingent run in the 6K White Race, in which 43 teams raced and the Mammoths placed 7th. 

First-year Katie Greenwald led the Mammoths with a 24th-place finish in 23:05.5. Over 344 runners participated in the White 6K. The Mammoths were a little more closely bunch in this race, with senior Allison Lounsbury placing 36th in 23:16.0. Following Lounsbury, sophomore Taylor Gudebski placed 49th with a time of 23:36.7. Shortly thereafter came three Mammoths in a pack. Senior Daphne Theiler was 54th in 23:42.6, first-year Maggie Kuchman placed 55th in 23:36.4 and sophomore Hannah Adhikari was 59th in 23:50.5. 

Sophomore Nora Hart rounded out the Amherst effort, placing 84th in 24:22.8.
