WATERFORD, Conn. — Junior
Harrison Dow finished 14th as the Amherst College men's cross country team raced to an eighth-place finish amongst an impressive field of 34 teams at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.
The Mammoths, ranked 12th in the nation in the latest USTFCCCA Division III poll, were one of 12 nationally-ranked top-30 teams in the field. Third-ranked Johns Hopkins captured the team title, led by senior Emmanuel Leblond, who won the race in 23:42.0 on the 8k course.
Dow finished in 24:22.0 to claim 14th place amongst the field of 264 runners in the championship Blue race. First-year
Carter Bengtson crossed in 24:43.0 to place 32nd overall and finish second amongst first-years in the field.
Senior
Henry Dennen ran his best 8k time of the year, taking 52nd place in 24:59.1. Classmate
Thomas Stephens ran a collegiate-best 8k time, finishing in 25:19.4 to place 85th. Junior
Harrison Talcott rounded out the Amherst scorers, placing 109th in 25:43.2.
The Mammoths also entered a contingent in the sub-varsity White race. That group placed 14th among 37 teams. Sophomore
Finn O'Hara led the Mammoths with a 33rd-place finish in 26:03.6.
The Mammoths will return to the seaside course at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday, November 1, for the NESCAC Championships with the men's race kicking off action at 11 a.m. Amherst has finished as runner-up at the conference championship meet in each of the last two seasons.
