NORTHFIELD, VT. – Goals by
Alyssa Xu, followed by
Maeve Reynolds and
Marie-Eve Marleau, skated the Amherst College women's hockey team past Nazareth College's Golden Flyers for a 3-0 win at Kreitzberg Arena in the consolation match of the East-West Classic Tournament.
Marleau's standout performance earned her a 14th Annual East-West Classic All-Tournament Team spot.
The Mammoths' record improved to 8-1 overall and remains 4-0 for in-conference play.
Amherst faces its next opponent, Curry College, this Friday (Jan. 10) for a 7 p.m. match at Orr Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- With 14:57 left in the second period, the Golden Flyers created a 2-on-1 opportunity after a clear from Nazareth's Ave Meteyer to Sofia Pittis. Pittis carried the puck up the right side and passed to Corsica Skibinski at the left post for a shot, but Mammoth goaltender Natalie Stott slid across to make the save.
- With 2:10 left in the second period, Amherst's Marleau chased down a loose puck near the boards, circled back under pressure, and passed it to Reynolds. Reynolds then fed Xu on the opposite side of the net for a one-timer goal.
- Amherst's Gretchen Dann cleared the puck into Nazareth's zone for Reynolds to win the puck race to goal for the 2-0 advantage with 2:49 remaining in the final period.
- Ayla Abban collected the puck by the boards and skated away from the Golden Flyer's pressure to find Marleau in the slot for the pass. Marleau one-timed the puck into Nazareth's empty net in the final 13 seconds of the match.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Amherst outshot Nazareth 28-26.
- The Golden Flyers held the advantage in face-offs, winning 36 of the 64, with Pittis winning 11 of the 15 she took.
- The Mammoths went 0-3 on power plays, while the Golden Flyers went 0-2.
- In net, Stott saved all 26 shots she faced on net.
