NEW YORK CITY, NY — Senior Tanmai Pathak and sophomore Quincy Cline, the top two players from the Amherst women's squash team, competed in Manhattan on Sunday in the second day of the 2025 CSA Individual Championships. This prestigious tournament showcases the nation's top collegiate squash players in singles competition and is held at Open Squash in the Financial District on 39th Street.

Yesterday, the tournament began. Pathak won her quarterfinal match of the Holleran East Championships versus Gurlin Kaur of the #24 Franklin and Marshall College Diplomats while Cline fell to Maryam Mian of the #6 University of Virginia Cavaliers in her Holleran West quarterfinal match. The two Mammoths competed again today.

Up first, at 9:50am, was Pathak. The Physics and Computer Science double major faced Lujan Palacios of the #3 Trinity College Bantams. Lujan holds a Universal Squash Rating (USR) of 5.77 and a 7-1 record for the season at the #4 spot for the Bantams. In a four-set match, Palacios prevailed over Pathak to qualify for the final. Palacios edged the first set with a score of 11-9 but then Pathak pulled the next set back with the same scoreline to bring the overall score level. However, Palacios regained control to take the next two sets (11-6, 11-4), ending Pathak's championship run.

Cline was up next at 12:20pm in the final of the consolation draw of the Holleran West competition. After receiving a bye in the semifinal, Cline played the winner of Angle Otshabeng of the #23 St. Lawrence University Saints and Reshika Rajarathinam of the #29 William Smith Herons. Rajarathinam won that match by default, but then fell to a dominant Cline, who won convincingly in three sets, with a score of 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.

Up next: After both Cline and Pathak went 1-1 against some of the best players in the country, they are ready to return to team competition and play in their next dual match with the rest of their teammates for the Mammoths. On Wednesday, Amherst will take on their NESCAC and Little Three rivals, the #15 Williams College Ephs. At 5pm, the exciting match will begin at the Simon Squash Center in Williamstown, MA. Amherst hold a season record (4-1 over NESCAC teams); the Ephs are currently 8-5.
