#2 Mammoths settle for scoreless tie versus #9 Middlebury

AMHERST, Mass..— The #2 Amherst College Mammoths walked away with a 0-0 result in their Saturday afternoon game versus the #9 Middlebury College Panthers.
 
Today's tie gives the Mammoths a record of 4-0-1 going into their next game against Springfield College on Tuesday, September 24th.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

*Amherst came out strong with a shot on goal by #30 Jessica Lomo eight minutes in, unfortunately saved by Middlebury goalie Popinga. The Mammoths kept possession of the ball for the majority of the first half until Middlebury started to work their way into the game.
 
*In the 38th minute, Amherst from a corner kick swung a great ball into the box, #23 Halle Hanna had a great header but Middlebury's goalie Popinga was there to save it. Amherst ended the first half still unable to put one in the back of the net.
 
* The Mammoths started the second half on a strong note with a shot by #3 Patience Kum that went high over the crossbar. In the 54th minute #3 Patience Kum dribbled two defenders in the 18-yard box for an incredible shot that was blocked by a stroke of luck Middlebury's #4 Abby Ward.
 
*In the 74th minute #2 Abby Schwartz crossed it into the box for a strong header by #19 Fiona Bernet that went just wide of the side netting. Amherst attacked Middlebury strong for the rest of the half with a multitude of corner kicks and shots on goal but were not able to capitalize.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

*The Mammoths out shot the Panthers 18 (9 on goal) to 8 (5 on goal). Amherst had 7 corner kicks, Middlebury had 2.
 
*They were close on fouls with 14 for Middlebury and 12 for Amherst.
