SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Amherst College volleyball team notched their fourth-straight victory as they defeated non-conference opponent Mount Holyoke 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20) on Tuesday evening. Junior opposite
Charlotte Rasmussen paced the Mammoths with 15 kills (hitting .375).
Amherst (4-0) will face off SUNY Brockport in the Rochester Invitational on Friday, September 13 for a 7 pm match.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
* In the opening set of the evening, both teams battled in back-and-forth play until Amherst took the lead 18-15 off of a five-point run capped off with a service ace from
Zosia Teraszkiewicz. The Mammoths maintained the advantage for the remainder of the set with a series of kills from
Renee Liou,
Kinsey Cronin, Rasmussen, and
Brielle Renwick while Liou captured the set point with a service ace.
* Tied at 15-15 in the second set, a strong four-point effort from Mount Holyoke pulled the Lyons ahead. Amherst continued to push with a four-point surge but the Lyons narrowly claimed the second set 25-23.
* Trailing Mount Holyoke 20-17 in the third set, the Mammoths responded with three kills from Cronin and a pair for Rasmussen combined with attack errors from Mount Holyoke to edge the Lyons 26-24.
* In the fourth set, a strong six-point surge from the Mammoths allowed Amherst to take the lead 13-10 which they were able to maintain for the remainder of the set. A kill by Cronin off of a set from Liou secured the four-set victory for Amherst.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths tallied 75 digs in the match with
Lizzie Papalia recording 22 and
Zosia Teraszkiewicz registering 18.
