HARTFORD, Conn. --
Dani Torres Werra went 3 for 4 and
Jenna Holmes drove in three runs Sunday as the Amherst College softball team salvaged a split of a doubleheader with Trinity College by taking the nightcap of the twinbill, 8-6.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Mammoths, who improved to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Amherst will host Smith College Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader on the Amherst Softball Field.
Trinity fell to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in NESCAC play.
Game 2, Amherst 8, Trinity 6
* The Mammoths scored single runs in the first four innings and broke the game open with a four-run top of the fifth.
* In the first,
Heidi Li laced a lead-off single, took second on an out and third on a passed ball. With two outs,
Emma Nordstrom singled up the middle to score Li.
* In the second, Torres Werra led off with a single and scored when
Annalise Knop scorched a ball to center field for an RBI-double and a 2-1 Amherst lead.
* In the third,
America Rangel singled, took second on a wild pitch and, after an out, advanced to third on a Nordstrom single. She scored to tie th game at 3-all when
Sadie Pool lofted a sacrifice fly to center.
* The Mammoths took the lead again in the fourth when
Anna Primozic stroked a one-out double to left field. With two outs, Li came through in te clutch with an RBI-single to center field.
* Amherst made it an 8-3 lead with its four-run fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Holmes ripped a bases-clearing, three-run triple to right-center field. She scored when Li's fly ball to left was misplayed.
* Amherst had 14 hits in the victory. Li, Rangel, Nordstrom and Primozic had to hits each.
Game 1, Trinity 4, Amherst 3
* Trinity scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to erase a 3-1 Mammoth lead and post a 4-3 victory.
* Again, Li led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. She took third on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Olivia Aitekn singled to center.
* The game was knotted 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning when Amherst scored twice. Rangel led off with a single, Aitken singled and Nordstrom walked to load the bases with no outs. Rangel scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. Pool made it 3-1 with a single through the lft side of the infield.
* Amherst had nine hits. Rangel and Aitken had two each.

Abby Moravek started and went six-plus frames for the Mammoths, allowing two hits and two runs, one earned. She walked five and struck out five.
