#8 Williams beat #16 Amherst in 5-4 nail-biter

AMHERST, MA – On Saturday afternoon, the #16 Amherst College men's tennis team suffered their first NESCAC loss of the season versus their Little Three Rivals, the #8 Williams College Ephs. With a score of 5-4, the match went down to the wire, but the Ephs came away with the win.

Today's loss ends Amherst's four-match winning streak and brings the season record to 11-3 (6-1 in NESCAC). Up next: Amherst have a doubleheader this weekend with another NESCAC matchup tomorrow. The Mammoths will host the #11 Middlebury College Panthers on their outdoor courts at noon.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • With wins at the #2 and #3 doubles spots but a close tiebreak loss at the #1 spot, Amherst led 2-1 after the doubles matches.
  • Junior Kobe Ellenbogen and First-year Ethan Ohm both won their singles for the home side in straight sets at the #3 and #6 spots respectively.
  • The Mammoths fell short in the other four singles matches to give Williams the narrow win.
