CLINTON, NY -- Sophomore attack
Bridget Finley scored three goals Saturday but it was enough as Hamilton overcame a one-goal deficit at halftime to defeat the 18th-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team, 9-4, on Steuben Field.
The Mammoths fell to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Continentals improved to 2-0 o the season.Â
Amherst is at Colby on Saturday, March 16th. Start time is 12 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Goals were scarce in the first half, but that was fine by Amherst. Finlay scored twice in a three-minute span of the first quarter for a 2-1 Amherst. lead. After the Continentals tied it up, first-year
Bridget Darcy scored the go-ahead goal with 11:39 remaining in the second for a 3-2 Amherst lead.Â
* Hamilton took control of the game in the third quarter, scoring all five goals of the 15-minute period to take a 7-3 lead.Â
* Finley snapped a 35-minute scoring drought by the Mammoths with 5:17 left in the game to make it 7-4, but the Continentals scored the final two goals of the contest for the 9-4 victory.Â
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Hamilton held a 27-18 advantage in shots.
Jessye Salmon started in goal for the Mammoths and made seven saves over nearly 39 minutes in goal.Â
* Amherst held a 20-18 edge in groundballs.
Brynn Korpi led the team with four and
Grace Wyckoff added three. Wyckoff added two caused turnovers as well.Â
