Me. -- Three goals to start the fourth quarter was enough for the 19th-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team to post a 9-8 upset of 6th-ranked Colby Saturday on the Mules' Bill Alfond Field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The game was tied 5-5 at the half and, after each team scored just one qual in the third stanza, 6-6 after three periods. Sophomore
Sofia Guttmann scored her fourth goal of the season unassisted with 3:11 left in the third to get the Mammoths even.
* That began a run of four straight goals for visiting Amherst. It was Raven who scored an unassisted goal nearly four minutes into the final quarter, her sixth of the season, which gave the Mammoths a 7-6 lead. Only 57 seconds later Sosa scored an unassisted goal, her seventh of the season, to give Amherst a two-goal lead. After a Colby penalty put the Mammoths in a women-up situation, first-year
Emma Crotty netted her second goal of the season only 37 seconds after Sosa's goal. Amherst led 9-6 with 9:30 left in the game.
* Colby scored twice in the final two minutes, the second tally coming with only 19 seconds left to make it a one-goal game at 9-8, but Crotty won the ensuing draw control. The Mules were awarded a free-position attempt in the final seconds, but could not get a shot off.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Colby out shot Amherst, 26-22. The Mammoths had a slight edge in groundballs, 13-10. Three Mammoths,
Eliza Marcus, Crotty and
Olivia Summers, had three groundballs each.
Kate Becker, Raven and Crotty had three draw controls each, though Colby won the draw controls, 11-9.
