#14 Trinity Texas beat #16 Amherst, 6-3

SAN ANTONIO, TX – On Saturday morning, the #16 Amherst College men's tennis team took on the #14 Trinity University (Texas) Tigers on their home courts, the Butch Newman Tennis Center. In sunny conditions, the Tigers came out on top and beat the Mammoths with a score of 6-3.

This results rounds up the Mammoths' spring break trip to Texas and constitutes their second loss of the season. Amherst's record is now 7-2 (2-0 in NESCAC). Up next: the Mammoths return to western Massachussetts tonight. They will resume NESCAC competition next Saturday in their next match. Amherst will host the Hamilton College Continentals on their outdoor courts (weather permitting) at 12pm. 


HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Three 8-6 wins in the doubles gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead heading into the singles matches. 
  • The #3 and then the #1 singles matches were the first to finish in which Junior Kobe Ellenbogen and First-year Andreas Sillaste got two wins on the board for the Mammoths. 
  • While Amherst also recorded a win at the #2 singles spot, the Tigers were victorious at the #3, #5 and #6 spots to earn the home side a 6-3 overall match win.
