#16 Amherst fall to #1 Emory in 5-4 marathon

SAN ANTONIO, TX – On Thursday evening, the #16 Amherst College men's tennis team's seven-match unbeaten season record was ended by the #1 Emory University Eagles with a score of 5-4. After rainy weather delayed the match's start time to 4pm, the Mammoths and Eagles battled it out for four hours at the Butch Newman Tennis Center.

After their first loss of the season, the Mammoths' record now stands at 7-1 (2-0 in NESCAC). Up next: Amherst have one match remaining in Texas. The Mammoths will take on the #14 Trinity University (Texas) Tigers on Saturday at 12pm (ET) on the Tigers' home courts at the Butch Newman Tennis Center in San Antonio.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Two of the three doubles matches were forced to tiebreaks. First-year Andreas Sillaste and junior Kobe Ellenbogen prevailed in their tiebreak at the #1 spot while Emory's #2 duo came through in the tiebreak at the #2 spot. Emory led 2-1 going into the singles matches.
  • Three of the six singles matches were stretched to three sets.
  • At 4 matches apiece, Brandon Cohen's win for Emory at the #6 spot gave the Eagles the overall victory.
