CLERMONT, Fla. - The Amherst College softball team dropped a pair of close losses Sunday as it began its spring break trip to the Spring Games
.
Amherst opened the season with a 5-0 loss to Endicott and then lost an extra-inning affair with Ramapo, who won 4-3 in eight innings.Â
Amherst is 0-2 going into Monday when the Mammmoths will face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 12:30 and Buffalo State at 2:45.Â
Amherst vs. Endicott
* The Mammoths were held to three hits by Seagulls' hurler Kristen Beebe, who went 6 2/3 innnings and allowed three hits while walking five and striking out 10 Mammoths. Amherst senior
America Rangel had all three of the Mammoths' hits, going 3 for 4. Amherst starting pitcher Dani Torees Werra walked all three times she came up to the plate.Â
* After Torres Werra retired Endicott 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Rangel led off the bottom of the inning with a single to the pitcher. Rangel then stole second, but Beebe would strike out three around a walk to Torres Werra. The Mammoths would eave nine on base in the game.Â
* Torres Werra took the loss, going a full seven innings and giving up 10 hits while walking one and striking out five.Â
Amherst vs.
Ramapo
* The Mammoths jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the top of the first of the nightcap. Rangel led off the game with walk and Olivia Aitekn laced a single through the right side of the infield. Torres Werra followed with a blast to right center that fell in for a two-run triple. With two outs, Torres Werra scored on a wild pitch for the three-run lead.Â
* Ramapo answered with two of its own in the bottom of the frame, helped by a bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring infield single. From there, it stayed 3-2 until the bottom of the seventh inning.Â
* A lead-off double paired with a two-out doubled tied the game for Ramapo.Â
* The Mammoths had four hits in this game. Rangel, Aitken, Torres Werra and Dyland Briggs had the hits.Â
* Abbey Moravek went the first six-plus innings for the Mammoths, allowing seven hits and four walks while fanning four. All three runs she allowed were earned.Â

Annalise Knop took the loss for the Mammoths.Â
