Mammoths swim past Springfield College 165-77

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Amherst College women's swimming & diving team won 11 events Sunday en route to a 165-77 victory over host Springfield College inside of Art Linkletter Natatorium.

The Mammoths improved to 5-2 on the season. They begin preparation for the 2024 NESCAC Swimming & Diving Championships, slated to begin Thursday, Feb. 15, at Middlebury College. 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* First-year Paige Arnold was involved in three victories Sunday, taking first in the 100 IM and the 100 free individually and then joining the winning 200 free relay team the Mammoths put together. She won the 100 IM in 58.74 seconds and the 100 free in 52.78. She joined classmate Lucy Smith and seniors Grace Walker and Lauren Eng on the 200 free relay team, helping the foursome to post a winning time of 1:37.45. 

* Donna Zhang swept the diving events for the second day in a row, winning the 1-meter with 233.03 points and the 3-meter with 256.88 points. 

* Megan Lee led a trio of Amherst College swimmers to a 1-2-3 finish in the 400-yard IM, placing first with a time of 4:37.19. First-year Maeve Kelly was second in 4:40.74 while Diane Koo placed third in 4:51.66. 

* Kelly was victorious in the 500 free, winning the event in 5:08.67. Emily Kim was right behind, taking second place in 5:35.63.

* Katie Hoffman took home first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.13, while Sabrina Comess was third with a time of 1:10.62. Hoffman took home a third-place finish in the 100 IM with a time of 1:03.96. 

* Amherst fashioned 1-2 finishes in both the 200 free and 50 free events. In the 50 free, it was Smith who emerged the victor with a time of 24.71 seconds. Walker was just behind her in second with a time of 25.01 seconds. Eng took home the top spot in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.57. Jennifer Adams was second in 2:01.05. 

* The Mammoths also went 1-2 in the 100 fly, where Alex Zorn took home first with a time of 59.83 seconds and Comess was second in 1:00.23. 

* The Amherst duo of Cara Spelke and Caitlin Knight went 2-3 in the 100 back, with Spelke placing second with a time of 1:02.10 and Knight taking third in 1:02.44.
