MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – First-year
Maeve Kelley set another school record and earned NESCAC Rookie of The Year honors as the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team finished sixth at the 2024 NESCAC Championships, which concluded on Sunday with two more All-NESCAC performances from the Mammoths at Middlebury College.
Kelley won the conference championship in the 500-yard freestyle and earned All-NESCAC honors, awarded to the top three finishers in each event, in all three distance events in her NESCAC Championships debut.
The Mammoths tallied 836.5 points over the championship to place sixth. Williams won its 20th NESCAC Championship with 2002 points, besting two-time defending champion Tufts.
The Mammoths will have one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NESCAC February Invitational next Sunday (Feb. 25) at Colby College before selections for nationals are announced on Feb. 28. Amherst's divers will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Northeast/North Regional Championships on March 2-3 at Colby.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Kelley broke the Amherst school record she set earlier this season in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching in 16:52.96 to finish second and earn All-NESCAC honors in her third event of the championship meet with an NCAA B-cut time. Junior
Megan Lee also posted a B-cut time, finishing sixth in 17:13.18.
* The Mammoths earned All-NESCAC honors in the 400-yard freestyle relay as first-years
Paige Arnold and
Lucy Smith, Lee and senior
Grace Walker finished third in 3:26.03, an NCAA B-cut time.
* Arnold posted an NCAA B-cut time in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing fourth with a personal-best time of 51.07 seconds, just ahead of Smith, who placed fifth in 51.61 seconds.
