MIDDLETOWN,
Conn. -- The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team claimed the team victory in the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Highlighted by seven individual and two relay victories and two NCAA B-Cut performances, the Mammoths finished the weekend tallying a score of 972.5 points to finish ahead of Coast Guard with 857 points and Trinity in third with 844.5 points.
The Mammoths, ranked 22nd in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, will return to the pool on Friday, January 3 as they host Babson at 5 pm.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Paige Arnold claimed the victory in the 100-yard butterfly registering a time of 56.30 while junior
Diane Koo placed third overall posting a time of 58.36 and
Sabrina Victor touched the wall in 58.37 which was good for fourth.
* Senior
Megan Lee produced a winning time of 1:54.79 in the 200-yard freestyle while Arnold was the runner up in 1:55.31 and senior
Jennifer Adams placed fifth overall recording a time of 1:57.89.
* Senior
Ali Lacroix won the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA B-Cut performance of 1:04.16 while the Mammoths also placed in third through fifth as senior
Katherine Hoffman, junior
Joline Fong, and first-year
Ava Liu delivered times of 1:06.45, 1:07.01, 1:07.31, respectively.
* In the 100-yard back, senior
Cora Spelke placed third overall posting a time of 58.64.
* The Mammoths went one, four, and five in the 200-yard medley relay as the Amherst A, B, and C teams notched times of 1:46.69, 1:50.49, and 1:50.81, respectively.
* Senior
Sydney Bluestein won the three-meter dive totaling 255.75 points while junior
Donna Zhang finished as the runner up with 253.80 points and senior
Olivia DeVol placed fourth with 172.90 points.
* In the one-meter dive, Zhang claimed the victory with 246.25 points while Bluestein finished in second with 237.55 points and DeVol placed fifth with 188.90 points.
* Spelke finished fourth overall in the 200-yard backstroke clocking in a time of 2:08.52 while first-year
Taryn Veronda touched the wall in 2:09.66 which was good for fifth overall.
* Amherst went one, two, and three in the 100-yard freestyle as Arnold claimed the victory in 52.39 while
Lucy Smith placed second in 52.96 and Lee finished in third in 53.52.
* In the 200-yard breaststroke, Lacroix earned a winning NCAA B-Cut time of 2:20.13 while Fong placed third in 2:23.42 and Hoffman finished fifth overall in 2:27.19.
* Lee and Koo brought strong performances in the 200-yard butterfly placing second and third in 2:08.19 and 2:08.92, respectively.
* The Amherst A team won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:33.97 while the Amherst B team placed third overall in 3:37.11.
