MIDDLETOWN,
Conn. -- The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team delivered strong opening performances to the first day of the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Friday evening.
Six Mammoths placed among the top five while five Amherst relay teams claimed a top-five finish to conclude the opening day in first place with 577.2 points ahead of runner up Coast Guard with 539.2 points and Trinity (551.3 points) in third.
The Mammoths, ranked 22nd in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, return to action tomorrow at 10 am for the second day of the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* In the 200-yard freestyle relay the Amherst A, B, and C teams finished in first, third, and fifth notching times of 1:37.49, 1:39.24, and 1:39.53, respectively.
* Senior
Jennifer Adams placed fourth overall in the 500-yard freestyle with a season best of 5:14.60.
* Three Mammoths posted a top-five finish in the 200-yard individual medley highlighted by senior
Megan Lee who claimed the victory in a time of 2:07.59 while first-year
Sabrina Victor finished in fourth in 2:10.65 and junior
Diane Koo placed fifth recording a time of 2:10.94.
* Sophomore
Lucy Smith tied for first place in the 50-yard freestyle, registering a time of 24.08 while Victor placed fifth posting a time of 24.87.
* The Amherst A and B teams placed first and third overall in the 400-yard medley relay delivering times of 3:51.22 and 3:56.81, respectively.
