AMHERST, Mass. – Third-period goals from
Ayla Abban and
Alejandra Ubarri – along with
Cara Mancini's late second-period tally – secured a 3-1 win for the Amherst College women's hockey team over Connecticut College tonight at Orr Rink.
The Mammoths remain undefeated with a 3-0 record and will face the Camels again Saturday in a 3 p.m. conference match-up at Orr Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* With 9:37 left in the first period, Mammoths' goalkeeper
Natalie Stott made an unbelievable sprawling save on a breakaway by Conn.'s Ashley Engle to keep the game scoreless.
- At 17:38 into the second period, Amherst player Marie-Eve Marleau picked up a loose puck off the boards, skated up the right side into Hamilton's zone, and set up Mancini for a backhand shot on goal.
- Answering back to even the score, Connecticut College defender Kiley Smith captured the puck and delivered a pass to Kate Hagness at the high slot for a shot on goal. Claire Sammons collected the rebound, backhanding the puck into the goal at 6:40 in a Camel power play.
- Abban scored the go-ahead goal at 3:46 into the final period after she stole the puck from a Connecticut College defender just outside the crease, flicking the puck into the top right corner of the net to retake the lead for Amherst.
- Later in the final frame, with the Mammoths on a power play, Annabel Raffin passed to Emily Hohmann at the right point, who sent the puck toward the post. Ubarri redirected it into the net for her first collegiate goal at 10:56.
