GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Chloe Agopian got Amherst on the scoreboard only 4 minutes into the match after fellow sophomore
Maya Harrington hit the ball downfield and past the Cardinals' defensive line to find Agopian wide-open. The speedy forward dribbled the ball into the circle for a 1 vs. 1 with Wesleyan goaltender Audrey Pace. Agopian scooped the ball past Pace and into the lower left corner to notch Amherst's first goal of the game.
* Just 2 minutes later senior
Sam Maynard lifted the Mammoths to 2-0 off a breakaway led by junior
Molly Donegan. Flanked by 2 Cardinal defenders at the 23m line, Donegan hooked the ball back to Agopian, who quickly slipped the ball left to an open Maynard. The senior then dribbled the ball into the circle and through the Wesleyan defense, firing the ball into the center of the net to take the Mammoths to a 2-0 lead.
* The second quarter saw an inspired performance by the Amherst defense that left Wesleyan scoreless going into the second half. The Cardinals only managed 1 shot in the entire quarter, which slid wide after facing a tight defensive effort from Harrington.
* The Mammoth offense forced Cardinal goaltender Pace to make 5 saves in the third quarter. Both Maynard and Agopian routinely exploited Wesleyan's defense down the left aisle of the field, cutting the ball inside to produce several goal-scoring opportunities for Amherst.
*Wesleyan's best chance of the quarter arrived in the 10
th minute off a penalty corner, but a strong running challenge from Harrington at the top of the circle deflected the ball up and over the net.
*With 27 seconds left in the game, Wesleyan notched its only goal of the match after two yellow cards dropped Amherst down to 8 players against Wesleyan's 10. Cardinal Georgia Adams slotted the ball left to find Leila Feldman in front of goal, who slipped the ball past Puchalski to take the game to 2-1.
* 4 penalty corners awarded to Wesleyan in the final 8 seconds of the game brought the Cardinals to search for the equalizer, but 2 saves by Puchalski and a final clearance by Harrington won the match for the Mammoths.
