Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Schwartz’s brace leads #11 Amherst to thrilling 2-2 tie against Bowdoin on Senior Day

AMHERST, MA — On Saturday afternoon, the #11 Amherst College women's soccer team celebrated their 11 seniors and played their penultimate match of the regular season versus the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Hitchcock Field. The Mammoths tied the Polar Bears in an intense 2-2 draw.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The match kicked off with high energy as both teams launched early shots on goal, testing each other's goalkeepers within the first five minutes. Amherst was first to capitalize in the 11th minute, sending the Homecoming weekend crowd into cheers. To open the scoring, sophomore Precious Novidzro advanced the ball from midfield and made a precise diagonal pass to senior Abby Schwartz on the left wing. Schwartz sprinted past Bowdoin defenders and coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
  • Amherst continued to press but couldn't extend their lead before Bowdoin struck back late in the half. In the 40th minute, Emilia Tutan's attempt forced a save from Amherst's goalkeeper, Mika Fisher, before Bowdoin's Kayley Huleatt equalized in the 42nd minute with her third goal of the season. The first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
  • In the second half, Bowdoin took their first lead in the 55th minute, with Huleatt converting a penalty for her second goal of the match. Amherst responded swiftly, leveling the score in the 60th minute. Junior Ella Johnson set up Schwartz again, who skillfully outmaneuvered her defender before cutting inside the box and firing a shot into the net. Like Huleatt, Schwartz also scored her second goal of the game.
  • The match continued with back-and-forth intensity, with both goalkeepers making key saves to prevent a late winner. Amherst tested Bowdoin's goalkeeper, Charlotte Iannone, twice in the final minutes with shots from Novidzro and senior Fiona Bernet, but the Mammoths couldn't break the deadlock.
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Amherst had 21 shots (15 on goal) whereas Bowdoin only had 6 (6 on goal).
  • Bowdoin goalkeeper Charlotte Iannone recorded 13 saves, while Amherst's Mika Fisher was called upon for 4 stops.
