Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#2 Amherst scores six against Sarah Lawrence, 6-0

AMHERST, Mass. — Fresh off a road draw against Hamilton College on Saturday, the second-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team returned to Hitchcock Field on Sunday afternoon, where they delivered a commanding 6-0 win against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons. On a delightful fall day, the victory marked Amherst's eighth win of the season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • After a slow start, the Mammoths broke the deadlock at the 22:15 mark when sophomore Jessica Lomo netted her third goal of the season, assisted by Fiona Bernet. That goal opened the floodgates for Amherst, with first-year Caroline Coletti scoring twice in quick succession – her fourth and fifth goals of the season – at the 23rd and 24th minutes. Sophomore Precious Novidzro provided the assist for Coletti's second.
  • The Mammoths dominated the first half, repeatedly testing Sarah Lawrence's goalkeeper, Bella Vaca, who made five saves to prevent further damage before halftime. The Gryphons' defense struggled under Amherst's relentless pressure, and the score remained 3-0 heading into the break.
  • The second half mirrored the first, with Amherst in full control. Lomo added her second goal of the game and fourth of the season in the 69th minute. Less than a minute later, first-year Millie McLeod scored her first goal in an Amherst jersey, making it 5-0. The Mammoths capped off their scoring spree in the 73rd minute when Novidzro, who had earlier set up a goal, found the back of the net herself, marking her second goal of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Amherst had 30 shots (20 on goal) whereas Sarah Lawrence only had 2 (1 on goal).
  • The Mammoths had 7 corner kicks throughout the game; Sarah Lawrence did not have any.
